第一句没问题，不过hospital重复，第二分句改为We sent him there at once.更好

第二句错了。arrive是不及物动词，arrive at/in才加名词。还有headquarter是一个单词，意思是总部，指挥部。改过的句子是

After arriving at the George Island, Captain sent a radio message to the headquarters.

第三句继续他的实验是carry on his experiment，carry out是执行的意思。改过的句子是：

He was determined to carry on his experiment, but he would use a new way this time.

第四句could 后面加动词原形，couldn't help thinking of sth，情不自禁地想起某事，在农村是介词in，这里错了。改过的句子是：

When she was reading the novel, She could not help thinking of the five years which she had spent in the village.
