写在前面的话
1，此文较长，阅读可能要花费二十分钟甚至半小时以上时间。2,本文的阅读对象为高考英语及国内各主流英语考试的参加者及培训者。
都知道“知己知彼，百战不殆”。大到国家战略，小到买菜砍价，最大限度地了解对手等于最大限度地提高自己成功的概率。考试也一样。
高考英语应该是目前国内参加人数最多，影响最大的英语考试了。然而据我观察，很多人，包括考过的，或者还没考的，都没想清楚这个问题：高考英语到底是在考什么。本文就来探讨一下这个问题。

第一部分：高考英语有哪些题型？
近年全国各版本的卷子涉及的主要题型见下表。个别省份或一些不太普遍的题型不做赘述。
第二部分：这些题型都在考查什么？
首先看看从这些题型能获得什么信息。
第一，英语作为一种语言，其使用方式为听、说、读、写四种。除了“说”，也就是口语，其它方式都考查到了。当然，报考英语专业的考生要加试口语，本文暂且不表。
第二，分值最大的题型，第一位是阅读理解，第二位是写作、听力或者完形填空。
第三，就考查的技能而言，第一位的就是“读”。阅读理解题直接考查阅读理解的能力；七选五、阅读表达也是在考查阅读理解能力；完形填空题呢？
这里可能有争议了。有人说完形填空在考查词汇，有人说是考查语法。那么我问两个问题，（1）如果每个空4个选项的单词都认识，就能做全对吗？答案：否。（2）观察一下，有没有某个题的4个选项设置的是同一个词的不同形式？比如A是drink, B是drinking, C是drunk, D是to drink.有吗？答案仍然为否。所以完形填空题不是考查词汇，也不是考查语法。那么它到底在考查什么？
如果问问那些做完形填空题接近全对的学生，有没有读懂文章。答案是肯定的。相反，完形填空正确率低的人一定是没有读懂文章，所以才会错一大片，而且常常出现“五连错，七连错”，就是因为文章中的某部分“完全没读懂”。事实上仔细思考一下就能明白，对于这个题型，要想把某一个空选对，你需要知道“这个挖了空的句子作者想要说什么”，而要达到这一步又需要知道作者在上文，甚至下文“说了什么”。因为这是一篇有内容有意义的文章，不是单个独立的句子，它要求你根据已有的信息，结合上下文，按照一个正常人的思维把每个挖了空的句子意思“推理”出来就行了。说是“推理”都有点过了，在你读懂已有信息的条件下，你只要像个正常人一样思考就可以把题做对。比如有一篇完形就是这样的，在开头先有一句话：“Almost every woman wants to be a good mother.”然后过了几句又说“You never stop worrying if you are doing a good job as a ________”.选项为：a, teacher; b. *****; c. parent; d.guide.前面说每个女性都想成为一个好母亲，后面又说如果你想尽好作为______的职责，你永远都会有担忧。作为一个正常人的你一定不用“推理”就会选出正确答案parent。说到这儿，我想起我的高中英语老师的一句话：“做完形填空，就是要做个正常人。”
不过，请注意我上面说的是——“在读懂已有信息的条件下”——意思就是在没读懂的情况下你是无法使用你的“推理”能力的。所以不管从它考查的本质来看，还是根据正向的例证或是反向的例证，都说明一个问题：完形填空这个题型也是在考查阅读理解的能力。
第四，想象一下，如果此刻正在高考英语的考场上，你在那2个小时里花最多时间在做的是什么事情？答案就是：读。
总体来看，一份卷子当中要求你去“读”的分值几乎占到了2/3。基本上除了听力和写作，剩下的都是在“读“。
我想高考命题者的逻辑是这样的。高考是向大学选拔人才的考试，国内的大学生使用英语最多的方式还是“读”——本科阶段有些课程需要读英文原版教材和参考书，硕士和博士会有更多的英文书籍要读，而且需要大量阅读国外的学术期刊。而出国留学的学生则不同，他们需要听、说、读、写全方位使用英语，这也是TOEFL(托福)和IELTS(雅思)直接将考试分为听说读写这四个模块的原因。
第三部分：听力和写作的深入分析。
通过刚才的分析我们知道：高考英语所有的题型中，除了听力、写作、语法填空和改错题，其它都是在考查阅读理解能力。而且语法填空和改错这两个题型也需要你读懂已有的信息，否则能得到的分数也非常有限。那么剩下的听力和写作就跟“读”没有关系了吗？我们来单独分析一下。
先说听力。有很多学生每周都要练听力，甚至每天都在听，可考试时听力依然得不到高分。他们有一个共同点，就是“听完就算”，只对一下答案，这个工作就结束了。这是不对的。为何？
假设给你听下面这段文字：

即使我以非常慢的语速，很清晰地把这段文字朗读出来让你来听。然后问你：这段文字的大意是什么？我敢肯定90%的高中生答不上来。为什么？
因为你从来没听过以下这些词：demonstration, symbolic shadow, Emancipation Proclamation, momentous decree, seared, withering, jouyous, captivity。不认识这些词，句子的意思也就无法理解了。
如果你第一次听到之后并没有找到这段文字材料，去查所有的生词，并结合语法去理解意思，那么我让你再听10遍，100遍，你还是听不懂。是不是？
这个例子只是想说明：你从来没有听懂过的句子，仅仅靠听，再听多少遍也不会懂。
此结论非常简单，但很多人却选择无视它，而去做重复的无用功。
此结论背后的原理是这样的：“听“这一过程所输入的是语音。我们要理解所听到的内容，必须把听到的语音跟我们大脑中已有的“语音-含义”这样既有的配对信息匹配起来。比如，你已经掌握这个词“demonstration”,会正确地读作【ˏdemənˈstreɪʃn】，并且知道它有“**”的意思。也就是说，你的大脑磁盘中已经存储有一个配对信息“【ˏdemənˈstreɪʃn】-**”。那么当你下次听到【ˏdemənˈstreɪʃn】这个语音的时候，你的大脑就会自动启动“搜索程序”在你的“磁盘”里搜索，并且很快就会搜索到“**”这个意思并与之匹配，于是这个词就算是听懂了。那么要听懂一句话，就需要你把这句话所包含的所有词都能搜索到，再结合你的语法知识，这句话的意思就理解了。这个过程必须在零点几秒之内完成，所依赖的条件就是你的大脑磁盘中那些既有信息有着稳定的、清晰的“配对”。如果你仅仅是见过“demonstration”这个词，却并不知道它有“**”的意思；又或者你知道这个词的意思，但是你读它的发音跟正确的发音相差太远，这就是“配对”不清晰。而你的大脑一定会自动启动搜索程序——一定会的，这是大脑的工作机制，你控制不了的——然而搜到的却是错误的结果或者根本没搜到结果，也就是没听懂。
更要命的是，对很多人来说，一个词没听懂或似懂非懂时，大脑仍会使劲地搜索“刚才那个词到底什么意思？”但与此同时听力录音却在继续放着，而你的耳朵完全听不到后面的话，因为此时大脑的“内存”被占着。等你回过神来，已经是沧海桑田。于是你捶胸顿足，只能猜一个答案了。相信很多人都有过这样的经历。
我们总有听不懂的词。所以听力当中最好的应对办法就是“听在当下”——也就是没听懂时果断放弃，然后集中精力听后面的。也许问题的答案跟那个不懂的词根本就没关系，你甚至完全可以靠有限的、零碎的信息把题做对。
所以，提高听力分数的正确做法是这样：每次考完试或练完听力，把听力原文拿到，老老实实地把文字材料中所有不会的词、短语、固定表达或句型都搞清楚。然后呢？读！读到你把这个句子读完的同时这句话的意思也完整地显现在脑海里，而不需要再花哪怕一秒钟时间去分析和理解。这样做就是在你的脑中建立稳定的，清晰的配对信息，以备下次听到语音的时候马上能搜索到正确的结果。
实际上，高考听力题的内容并不复杂，都是生活中常见场景的对话，生词和难懂的固定表达也不会太多。基本上只要在高三那一年每周听一套题，甚至每2周听一套题——但是重要的是把原文拿到，搞懂并熟读——坚持到高考，听力拿满分的可能性还是非常大的。我本人就是这个办法的实践者和受益者。
咦？刚才这段分析好像说明一个问题：搞定听力的方法居然是“读”。没错，就是这样。
再说写作。李笑来老师曾多次提到，大部分学生在英文写作上的问题，不是不知道怎么写，而是干脆没什么东西可写。这一点我深表认同。写作是一个思想输出的过程，如果没有思想，如何写得出来？那么如何才能有思想？唯一正确的途径就是大量阅读加思考。
有人说，辩论也可以让人有思想。没错。但问题是，如果没有大量阅读积累做支撑，如何辩论得起来？一个整天只会刷朋友圈而一年也读不了两三本书的人，是不会和别人产生什么有深度的辩论的。而反面的例子就是，所有的写作高手，无论是职业作家，还是互联网上能写出点击量过十万的作者，无一不是有着深厚的阅读积累。所以，让自己“有东西可写”的途径就是大量阅读（中文和英文都可以）并思考。
如果在“写作”二字前面加一个“英文”，那就还需要一点别的能力了。实际上真的只是“一点点”。
要学会用英文表达思想，你就模仿人家是怎么用英文表达思想的。我的办法就是背诵一定数量的英文句子。记到脱口而出的程度。这些句子最好是从教材和高考真题中搜集出来，既有简单句又有并列句和复合句，也要包括一些惯用语和一些非常“美妙”的表达。这样在你需要表达自己思想的时候，去套用这些句子就行了。至于数量，我觉得50到100个句子就够。如果每周记一个句子，每年学习时间40周，高中三年都能记120个句子，绝对够了。
当然这种“套用”的能力也是要练习的，不过这个练习过程也是容易的——因为当你脑子里熟记了几十个句子的时候，“套用”几乎就是你的大脑会自动完成的工作了。我见过很多学生不去增加阅读量，平时练习的作文从不愿意写，等到了考试，在那里抓耳挠腮10分钟也憋不出一个句子来，偶尔憋出来还是错的！真是可悲。
也许有人会鄙视这种“套用”的方式，认为这就是模仿别人。可是别忘了，语言学习的根本方法就是模仿嘛！事实上几乎任何知识或技能的习得，初期都是靠模仿的，到了一定水平才能有创造的能力。
以上这几段文字就证明了：写作技能的提高也是靠“读”。
综合第二、第三部分，我们就能发现：高考英语所考查的方方面面，几乎都跟“读”有关系。或者说，高考英语要拿高分，离不开“读”。
第四部分：如何正确地读？
第一，大量地读。
首先，不管是英文还是中文，大量阅读（也可以叫泛读，注意是广泛的泛）都可以为我们的写作积累思想。
其次，大量的英语阅读，可以带给我们英语国家的人文艺术、政治经济和科学技术等各个方面的知识。
再次，也是最重要的。无论哪种语言，表达一个观点或讲一个故事是要有逻辑的。你在大量阅读中会逐渐熟悉英语语言的逻辑。并且配合这样的训练：阅读时不断总结：“这一段说了什么“、”这篇文章说了什么“、”作者的行文思路或文章的框架结构是什么样的“，当阅读量到了一定程度，你就练出了一种“快速获取大意”的能力。
这种能力对于考试又有什么用呢？
仔细观察阅读理解的题目就会发现：无非是两种考查思路：读懂文章大意了没？读懂某个细节了没？事实上在考场上有限的时间内，想读懂所有细节几乎是不可能的事。所以我们只能去抓大意。这时候，“快速获取大意”的能力就派上用场了。抓住大意之后，考查细节的题目也容易解决了，因为你就知道该在哪一段找答案了。
在训练这种“快速获取大意”的能力时，初期你可以先拿笔写下那些总结性的句子，熟练了之后只要能说出来甚至“在脑子里说出来”就可以了。
第二，学会精读。
从题型看，完形填空的分值也很大，而它要求你完全读懂每个句子；阅读理解中的细节题占比也很高，当然也需要准确理解相关句子才能解答。此外，语法填空和改错也需要精读的能力。
先认识一下什么是考试所需要的”精读能力”？
简单句理解起来基本是没有难度的（除非你的词汇真的太少，语法真的太烂），构成理解障碍的往往就是复合句、并列句、非谓语动词，以及各个独立句子之间表示关系（也就是逻辑）的词，如still, however，what’s worse等。所以在做精读训练的时候，要有意识地打磨对以下这些词（结构）的快速、准确理解能力：（1）从句及非谓语动词；（2）and, but等并列连词及however, still, though, unless, as,等从属连词或关系副词；（3）含义上有极端色彩的词，如最高级，the only, the very, the right, the last, main, majority, minority, single, mere等；（4）代表对比关系的词，如比较级、than, would rather, prefer, other than, instead（of）, the same as, as…as, while等；（5）搞清楚it、they、this、that等代词表示的到底是什么。
事实上，以上这些词或结构表示的就是“基本意思单位”（语法上讲就是简单句、从句或非谓语动词）之间的逻辑关系。比如：名词性从句都是可以看做“这件事儿”，去充当主句的主语、宾语、表语或同位语；而定语从句一定是去修饰它的先行词的，反过来说，把先行词带入到定语从句所缺的部分，一定可以组成一个完整的句子，这样就好理解了啊。看个来自高考真题的例子：
Adam Gazzaley, a researcher at the University of California, San Francisco, who was not a member of the research group, said one limitation of the study was that it couldn’t find out whether people who start out less focused tend toward multitasking（多任务处理）or whether people’s recognizing and understanding abilities changeas a result of multitasking.
这句话的确很长，里面有7个谓语，从前往后分别是was, said, was, couldn’t find out, start out, tend toward, change.看清楚了，这儿只有一个句号。根据一个谓语对应一个简单句或一个从句的原则，这里面可能最多有6个（层）从句。吓着了吗？别担心，再复杂的句子也不过是一个主句加各个从句构成的。
第一个was是在who引导的定语从句中，先行词是Adam Gazzaley,所以我们就可以理解为，Adam这个人并不是研究小组的成员。
第二个是said，主句的谓语，后面整个是一个宾语从句，所以后面所有内容都是Adam说的“事儿”；
第三个是was，后面跟个that引导的表语从句，所以后面的内容都是在说这个（Adam所说的）limitation是什么；
第四个是couldn’t find out,所以后面的内容都是在说it(这项研究)不能确定什么；
然后发现couldn’t find out后面有两个whether宾语从句用or并列起来了，于是理解为此研究不能确定的是两个“是否…”的问题；第一个whether里面还有个who引导的定语从句，显然先行词就是那个people,所以第一个问题就是“那些刚开始不太专注的人是否会倾向于进行多任务处理”；而第二个whether里面再没有从句了，所以直接理解为“人们的认知和理解能力是否会因多任务处理而改变”。
到此结束。总结起来就是：这个Adam说（宾语从句开始了）这个研究有个局限性，就是（表语从句开始了）它不能确认两个问题（两个whether引导的宾语从句）。还有两个定语从句都是修饰成分，单独理解一下就行了，而两个whether宾语从句的内容再单独理解一下。整个句子就非常清楚了。
所以，精读能力就是，不管句子多长多复杂，你都能够把结构理清楚，把意思理解得准确而完整。
那么精读能力如何训练？答案是：朗读。
我见过太多英语不好的学生，课本学过的文章根本没法读下去，有些即使磕磕巴巴地读下去了，随便找一个带从句或非谓语动词的句子让TA说说意思，都说不上来。然后我问TA，你平时读英语课文或文章吗？老实点的会回答：“基本不怎么读”，那些说读的我会再问“怎么读的？”很多回答都是“默读”。
相反，几乎所有的英语学霸都能够很顺畅地把课本上的文章读下去，意思也都能准确理解。有些甚至能背诵。而这些人毫无例外地都是有朗读的习惯的。
有人说，读就读呗，干嘛非要朗读？有区别吗？——有！
我们分析一下朗读这个过程的“原理”。
第一步，你用眼睛看到纸上的文字（按照一定顺序组织的单词）；第二步，大脑开始逐个搜索它存储的这些单词所对应的发音；第三步，把这些发音读出来；第四步，耳朵听到这些你读出来的发音；第五步，这一步才是理解的过程：耳朵听到的发音反馈给大脑，大脑会确认，并且以这个读音为“参考坐标”调用该单词的匹配信息（意思，用法）；然后呢，每读完一个或若干个“基本意思单位”，大脑还会根据前面所确认的单词的意思、用法，结合你的语法知识或一些固定表达输出一个意思，也就是理解（有时还会呈现出一副画面，这就是有“画面感”的了。相信每个人都有过体会）。
那么为什么要读出来让耳朵听到呢？默读不行吗？
的确，默读当然可以实现理解。但是默读省去了朗读过程的嘴巴去读和耳朵去听的环节，变成了眼睛看——大脑搜索——理解的过程。这里面最关键是没有了大脑通过语音来确认含义这一步。没有确认，理解就会出错。生活中有两个现象跟这一点原理想通，一个是戴着耳机唱歌很容易跑调，另一个是聋人必哑。
默读有可能造成以下问题：
（1）如果默读的时候遇到困难（生词，搭配，或者语法方面搞不清楚的问题），高速运转的大脑“根本停不下来”，或者有的人习惯了囫囵吞枣地读，所以干脆“懒得停下来”，于是直接不理会这些困难而进行“猜读”或“跳读”，这样输出的理解只能是不完整，不准确的。
（2）有些人无法接受上面的输出结果，于是返回去反复揣摩刚才有困难的片段，这样反而降低了理解速度。
针对默读的缺陷，出声朗读又能解决什么呢？
（1）朗读过程同时调动了眼睛、嘴巴、耳朵，产生了视觉和听觉**，并且把一个词（组）的形、音、义、用法再次匹配了一遍，强化了记忆。
（2）朗读避免了默读时猜读或跳读的情况。有人说朗读时也会遇到不认识的词啊？不也会猜读、跳读么？想想看，因为有了发音——听到——确认这一步，有生词的时候你还能朗读下去吗？所以朗读会倒逼你先把生词搞定，这样才能连贯地读下去——可见朗读还能让你扩充词汇量。
（3）这一点才是最重要的。在连贯的朗读过程中，即使词都认识，但读完一句后意思很不清楚，也就是没有输出一个理解的结果，你也是无法继续读下去的。朗读方式本身会逼着你去理解。如果没有输出理解的结果，你那颇有敬业精神的大脑是不会凑合着干下去的。这个过程，实际上就是把你脑中存储的最基础的知识层面的东西——单词、搭配、语法等转化为一个完整的意思——这就是理解能力，是知识之上的技能层面的东西。这才是你真正需要的。因为考试不会让你默写单词，也不会考你名词性从句有哪些引导词，而是要你去理解文章的。所以，朗读能实现知识到技能（理解能力）的转化。
（4）朗读训练初期，我们的大脑是以单个的词或词组为单位去调用和理解的。就像小孩子读书要逐字理解一样。但是随着训练深入，大脑调用和理解的模式发生了变化：为了跟上理解速度，大脑发现一次调用一两个词太慢了，于是把一些词的习惯用法，一些固定句型，甚至一些语法结构存储起来，需要的时候直接以这种“大结构”为意思单位去调用和理解。最常见的例子就是，读得够多时，你会发现“It is…that…”这种句子一出现，后面无非就是主语从句（it做了形式主语）或强调句型。所以当你下次读到一个句子以it开头时，大脑已经准备好要按照形式主语或强调句去理解了；等that后面内容出来时，再根据大脑存储的另一个固有信息即“that后面如果本身是完整句子，必是主语从句；如果加上that前的内容才能构成完整句子，则必是强调句”来判断，整句的理解就变得相当容易而准确了。这种理解模式让你“站在高处”一眼就看穿了整个句子结构，理解起来就相当快速而准确了。
这个原理实际上有神经心理学的研究支持。人脑的记忆有“显性记忆”和“隐形记忆”之分。如果一个信息在脑中是以显性记忆存储的，调用的时候是需要一番搜索和再理解的；而隐形记忆的信息，调用时非常快，理解也异常准确。对于语言来说，只要使用的次数够多，很多显性信息就会内化为隐形信息。比如中文的“的”，它有包括修饰、所有关系、比喻等在内的N多种用法，相信很少有人能理清楚，但我们每次读到它或者写作要用时，都能不用思考而在瞬间调用它并且准确理解或使用。这就是隐形信息。英文也一样，当我们对很多词或语法结构通过阅读“使用”得够多时，这些东西就内化成了隐形信息。你的英语语言的隐形信息越多，理解和写作时就越快，越准确。
关于如何读，总结起来就是：大量地读，大声得读。不会读，就查字典，查语法书，问别人。（但是别问百度。具体原因自己去了解吧）很简单。
