迪斯尼《冰雪奇缘》“Let it Go" 分析

迪斯尼的最新电影“Frozen”好评如潮，其中歌曲 “ Let It Go ” 是影片一大亮点。不信的话—— 维基 看看，一如往常那是种简单背景搜寻的好地方。我还在和自己辩论：Elsa是不是我最爱的喜欢的迪斯尼角色，以及 “Let It Go” 是不是我最爱的士尼歌曲——时间会证明一切，但目前我的答案都倾向“是”。在我的Google搜索历史中，有著诸如 “Let it go太棒了” 和 “Frozen Let it go分析” 的搜寻记录，但目前仍无满意的结果。於是我决定自己来写这一篇。

有关於 “Let It Go” 的书写已经有很多，并已形成一种典型的意见：认为这首歌曲是关於“解放”或“培力”，是关於Elsa找到真正的自我，而且那是从充满恐惧与束缚的生活中解脱以後的欢腾庆祝。尽管大致上这一切都是对，但要是分析停留在那，就会错过了歌曲真正的深度和幽微之处。是的，这首歌是关於培力，但也是包含了悲剧，愤怒，痛苦，以及自我欺骗在其中，而且那样的成分更多。那并不是Elsa在标榜著她的自我认同和魔力——正好相反，在歌曲的结尾部分，她处於濒临失去自我的极大危险中。这首歌的确带她走出低谷，但也却把她推上了一个有湿滑斜坡的高耸绝壁，她处在掉入 绝望谷底 ，以及滑出 道德边界 的危险。这首歌的潜力不只在於它如何正面地鼓舞人心，而是它如何完美地贴合整体叙事，以及在多大程度上发展出Elsa深具魅力，让人产生共鸣（compelling, relatable）的人物性格

首先，来考虑这首歌被安置在电影里的位置。Elsa刚从自己的加冕晚宴中脱逃，同时也刚让Arendelle陷入永恒的冬天。这首歌曲本身标识著 第一幕 的结束。可这故事才刚要开展，所以这不可能是Elsa角色发展的终点——实际上它只是开头部分的结束（the end of the beginning），而且这首歌的主要功能是在奠定Elsa必须经历的冲突——在故事结束前她必须面对的心魔。事实上，接下来的故事发展，很大程度地是在否定反转她歌里最得意的那几句歌词。想一想接下来这几段：

Elsa唱了好几次，“Let the storm rage on”（就让风暴肆虐吧），这是指她内心的风暴（在整首歌的过程中，天气可说大致稳定）。她也唱到，她现在自由了。她试图说服自己可以和内心的漩涡共处。可是，就在下一幕 “ For The First Time In Forever (Reprise) ” 里头，Elsa终於面对她为Arendelle带来的问题，那进一步把她逼向绝望，并唱出 “Oh, I'm such a fool, I can't be free / No escape from this storm inside of me”（噢，我以为的自由原是愚不可及／无法从这内心风暴中逃离）。所以才不过一幕，她就收回了曾说过的话。她，事实上，还未得到自由，而且也没能和她心中的狂乱风暴和平共处。

在 “Let It Go” 里，接在“Let the storm rage on”後面的是"The cold never bothered me anyway"（反正寒冷从来奈何不了我）——这句歌词许多人记得住，因为它被唱了两次，而且是以截然不同的形式，加上还是整首歌的最後一句。当然，从字面上来看，身为冰雪女王的Elsa的确不受低温困扰。但若从另一层意义来体会 “寒冷”的话，她还是相当畏惧的。无法控制的魔法施放仍然是故事里一大问题，况且在完成冰宫以後，她也一直要到影片的最後，才终於再次能够快乐地施展魔法。 （译注：作者这里的寒冷可能指的是魔法）

最重要的是，与众人隔离的“寒冷”，其实一直是她心中最深处的困扰。请回想她在歌曲结束时的行为，在唱完最後一句 "The cold never bothered me anyway" 之後：她转身猛地关上了新城堡的大门，一如她在Arendelle所作所为。她仍然用著加冕仪式前的方法来处理问题：她以为只要把在别人排除在外——要是那还不足够的话，只要她保持的距离够远够绝够孤独——那她就会没事。但这其实与电影的中心思想截然相反——她真正需要的是被爱的温暖拥抱，而非被孤寂的寒冷困扰。所以在她真正放弃这诡诈，且幽微的歌词／主张以前，影片是不能完结的，她也只在结束前的**才做到了这点。在那以前，Elsa一直在自我欺骗。

歌曲中的另一个自我欺骗，是当她说 “You'll never see me cry”（你永远不会看到我哭泣）的时候。无论是这句还是 “the cold never bothered me anyway”，都是一些人们在试图自我安慰时候才会说的话，真正做得到的人往往没必要特别说出口。理所当然，我们在影片的最後看见Elsa抱著Anna哭泣，那是Elsa爱她的最佳见证。再一次，透过否定这句歌词和扑簌的眼泪，她终於成为了想要成为的自己。是透过在片末**拒绝，而非拥抱“Let It Go”里头那些歌词的讯息，Elsa才终於找到了认同并且接纳了自我。

其他的例子俯拾即是。Elsa唱了 “here I stand, and here I'll stay”（我在此立足，并从此停留），以及 “I'm never going back”（我绝不回头）。不过当然，她还是回去Arendelle了。最後她离弃了那座冰宫（但维持了新装和发型）。她唱到：“That perfect girl is gone”（那完美女孩已不复返），但在影片最後，她确实在地成为了自己内心期盼的完美女孩——能够全面控制魔力，并且还受到妹妹和人民的爱戴。她唱到 “the past is in the past”（过去已成过往），但是她的最终救赎是透过与妹妹的关系而来，而那是源自Elsa最深沉的过去。

歌词的部分最後再说几句，试想想歌名本身，不断重复的 “Let It Go”（放开手），她究竟放开了什麼？首先也是最明显的，是指Elsa放开她对自身力量的限制，去“see what [she] can do / to test the limits and breaking through”（看看【她】能够做什麼／去测试和突破极限）。这是歌曲中的正面元素，但不幸也是绝大多数听众紧抓住，甚至排除了当中其他元素的部分。自我培力明显是件好事。你若仔细留意Elsa演唱时的表情，就会发现只有围绕这段歌词的几十秒她是真心地快乐。自我培力，虽说是好事，但是也不无危险，就像紧接的歌词所所揭示：“No right, no wrong, no rules for me"（没有是非，不问原则）。

说真的，说出这种话以後没成为坏蛋的角色有多少？就歌曲叙事意义而言，或许这是最浅显的歌词了。而那正是她“放开”的第二件事：她的是非观，压在她释放魔法之上，那个当个 “好女孩” 的规则与限制。目前看来很清楚，过去她受制於一些压抑和妨碍她的规则，但须知那也是为了其他人的安全著想。她是要放得多开？只有某些特定的规则吗？还是全部？一切良善的价值观？我们不会晓得，但她唱的那 “No right, no wrong, no rules for me” 应该敲响了观众脑中的警铃。“Let it Go”原初的设定为一首 反派之歌 ，迪斯尼试图在观众的心目中保留Elsa可以是反派的可能性。演到这里，我们应当要为Elsa的灵魂感到担忧，而她的接下来的角色发展，正是关於她如何从这危机中获得救赎。

Elsa还 “放开” 了与人为伴的期盼与欲求。这是 “Let It Go” 的第三层含义。如果上述 “Let It Go” 的第二层含义表达出Elsa的良善遭受侵蚀，那麼这第三层意义就是希望受到了侵蚀。第二层含义将Elsa推向邪恶，而第三层含义将她推向绝望。第二层含义可能导致恶行，第三层含义可能导致悲剧。她已经决定要远离一切所爱，并且尝试说服自己那样也很好。

再看一次Elsa唱著 “Let It Go” 时的脸部表情吧，特别是我上述已经提过的那些歌词部分。打开视频，用高清观看，然後在关键时刻将播放速度降到0.25。或是参考我的 Let It Go：Elsa脸部表情研究 。注意她脸上表情几乎是逐格在迅速变化。她快速的在疏离、痛苦、幸福、真诚的微笑、被痛苦压垮的双眉、愤怒、决绝，以及各种这些情绪的混合中变换。当中某些最负面的情绪是出现在Elsa唱出那些几句最得意歌词的时候。动画师，词曲作者和歌手非常出色地将上述这些浓缩在这精雕细琢、细腻繁复的歌曲中——只可惜许多人只简单地将之视为一首正面的，带来力量的歌曲。

“Let It Go” 在告知观众Elsa极有可能陷入邪恶与绝望的同时，也让她维持一个被充分同情的角色。她的自我培力，虽然一方面是好事，但同时也处於成为恶人或是陷入绝望的边缘。这使得观众既能够感受到她的心情，可同时我们也对她产生警惕并她感到担忧。谁没试过那种只要抛开他人和道德束缚，就能变得更加强大的想法呢？谁没感受过那种明知自身实力，却又无能为力的处境呢？而谁又没因为上述想法而感觉自身灵魂摇摇欲坠呢？由於以上种种原因，尽管只是一个拥有超凡能力的人类，Elsa是《冰雪奇缘》中最真实，最能让人产生共鸣的角色。

在通过 “Let It Go” 设定了这绝佳角色以後，接下来的影片就是关於Elsa如何避开这些人格崩坏的危机而最终成为一个善良的人，并当之无愧地成为作为迪斯尼最好的电影之一的女主角。有好几次她在危机边缘——她在驱逐访客和入侵者时，差点成了坏人。她以为Anna已死的时候，曾一度陷入绝望。但还好透过Anna的深情和其他人的帮助，她最终得到了属於自己的幸福结局。

我认为，如果你只单纯地把 “Let It Go” 当成是一首激励人心的歌曲，那无疑夺走了Elsa复杂刻画的绝大部分。你把她糟蹋成为一个扁平的角色。如果歌曲是完全积极正面，如果她的灵魂在歌曲结束时不是处在崩坏边缘，那她的角色就会失去发展的能动性。她就只会是一个善良，强大，对周围环境做反应的人。那她就不会在影片最後，彻底地成为一个和影片中段完全不同的人。要成为一个有血有肉的角色，Elsa的自我培力必须同时也带来危机。

因为在现实生活正是如此。我们早已听说 “能力越强，责任越大”。我们早已听说 “谁都能在逆境中挺得直，但你想要测试一个人的性格，就给他权力”。我们都知道 “权力会腐化”。不幸的是，我不常在许多最近得到培力的组织中感受到这种情感。总是有许多人侃侃而谈，个人培力是多麼的积极正面而且带来进步。可是却没多少人对这些人说，能力并不是正义或特权，而一种神圣的力（sacred charge），当用来行善与为善。
