《绿野仙踪》以虚构的奥兹国为背景，讲述了美国堪萨斯州的小姑娘多萝茜被龙卷风卷到了一个叫孟奇金的地方，好心的女巫指点她到翡翠城去找奥兹国大术士帮忙送她回家。路上，她先后遇到了稻草人-----他需要一副脑子；铁皮樵夫-----他需要一颗心；胆小狮子-----他需要胆量。他们结伴而行，互相鼓励、互相帮助，克服了一个又一个困难，终于来到了翡翠城。由于他们的出色的表现，大术士帮助他们实现各自的愿望，稻草人得到了一副脑子；铁皮樵夫得到了一颗心；胆小狮子得到了胆量，多萝茜也如愿，带着小狗托托回到了家乡，回到了亲人身边.
在读书的过程中，多萝茜占据了我的思想，多萝茜似乎就是我好朋友，我的心也随着多萝茜的经历不时地欢喜、紧张、惊异、难过。她那勇敢的表现、善良的心地、坚强的意志，让我感到自己很渺小，为自己的懦弱而很不好意思。因为以前，我一看见狗就害怕。有时我会问自己：“如果我是多萝茜，我会不会像多萝茜一样勇敢地克服重重困难、并帮助其他人呢？”看完这部童话后，我决心像多萝茜一样鼓足勇气，用不懈地追求和奋斗的精神来面对各种困难，克服学习上、生活上的一切不利因素，勇敢地挑战自我，我相信我一定能做到！

我购买了许多;书虫系列的书,因为是英汉双语读本,缩略版的故事,简明扼要,引人入胜,所以我非常喜欢.但一直选购的都是著名作品,例如:呼啸山庄,傲慢与偏见,雾都孤儿,等等.
而关于;难忘米兰达;一书,以前似乎没听说过,一开始是被其故事简介所吸引,给人一种悬案片的味道.
这是凯茜·威尔逊的第一份工作：同哈维一家生活在一起，照看两个年幼的孩子和料理家务。凯茜父母双亡，也没有兄弟姐妹。她希望在新家里过得快乐，但她不时感到孤独。孩子们的父亲邓肯常常出差去伦敦。凯茜喜欢孩子们，也喜欢邓肯的母亲老哈维太太，但她没有朋友。
很快，她开始揭开谜底，并终于明白了为什么每个人都忘不了米兰达……
读过以后,才明白整个故事的始末.整体感觉一般,
说是悬疑故事却不;悬疑;,说是爱情故事却不够;柔情;,倒像一辑家庭闹剧,尽管逝者死得很冤.但并非说作者写得不好,其文笔还是很流畅的,情节安排也恰到好处,只是受到故事内容所局限,没法做到像悬疑类小说那么精彩绝伦,也不能像爱情小说般扣人心弦.

The story of Dr Jekyll is quite famous around the world, however, Dr Jekyll himself is a typical tragic person. He is a kind and wise doctor in front of the public, but might not wise enough to adjust himself. As an old saying goes: every coin has two sides. Dr Jekyll also has his own negative side, which finally become Mr. Hide. Mr. Hide is always hunger for violence, and all the bad things he did tell us that too. People may treat him as a criminal, but to me, he is just unable to find a way to abreact.
It really doesn’t matter if you are a man lives in 19th century or comes from stone age, we are all people, we all have feelings, we all have our own Mr. or Ms Hide, the only question is, can you find a way to maintain your mental health? Maybe we can’t afford to have our own psychological consultant, but we CAN play games to relax ourselves, or realize any wildest dream in this virtual world. Imaging this, once our Dr Jekyll has some evil minds, he can turn to his computer for help. Maybe he can play some action games to satisfy his desire for“passion”, just like people today. Since the video game is always about the adventures of some superheroes, the game will guide him to the daydreaming of everything good but a criminal. As soon as he feels good again, then he will never try to become Mr. Hide in the reality. Maybe you will consider this as a na?ve idea, but computer game does reduce the crime rate in America.

Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.
The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.
The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.
How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.
For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes,‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.
To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.
Francis Bacon said in his essay,‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.’
That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those‘vermin-to-be’ to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.

The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books.(Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.
Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote“Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.
