考研英语要想拿高分，就需要我们具备长难句的分析理解能力。结合试题当中的命题句，我们先来感受一下考研英语的长难句是什么样子的，又是如何分析和理解的。

下面这句选自英语一2012年阅读Text 2当中的一句，大家来一起感受一下：

The company, a major energy supplier in New England, provoked justified outrage in Vermont last week when it announced it was reneging on a longstanding commitment to abide by the state’s strict nuclear regulations.

首先来看第一层，找到整个句子的主干，剔除修饰成分。其中a major energy supplier in New England位于两个逗号之间，属于插入成分可以暂且不看，且这个部分是对the company的具体解释，属于同位语;要想找到句子主干，最关键的是找谓语动词，我们可以先把全部的动词找到，再排除掉非谓语动词，剩下的就是谓语动词。通过寻找发现，动词有provoked，announced，was reneging on，to abide by，而中间两个属于从句的谓语，第四个是to do形式，属于非谓语动词，因此整个句子的谓语是provoked。谓语之前是主语the company，谓语之后是宾语justified outrage。至此，整个句子的主干已经找全，剩下的就是一些修饰成分了。我们来分别看看这些都是什么修饰成分。in Vermont是介词短语做地点状语，last week为时间状语，紧跟last week后面出现一个when，那么它引导的这个从句一定是定语从句。既然是从句，也就是句子，句子就有自己完整的主谓结构。

其次我们一起来看第二层，when引导的定语从句中谓语是announced，主语是it，宾语是it was reneging on a longstanding commitment to abide by the state’s strict nuclear regulations，实际上宾语是省略了that的宾语从句。

再次，一起来看第三层，宾语从句中谓语是was reneging on，主语是it，宾语是a longstanding commitment to abide by the state’s strict nuclear regulations，其中commitment被一个to do短语(to abide by the state’s strict nuclear regulations)作后置定语修饰。

最后，大家一起来梳理一下整个句子每部分之间的关系，主句主语被同位语修饰，主句宾语后有地点状语和时间状语，这个时间状语后有定语从句修饰，且定语从句当中的宾语是一个句子。理清了成分之间的关系，就可以按照单词和词组含义来依次理解和翻译了。
