investment 是单数还是复数

investment既可以用作可数名词，也可以用作不可数名词。用作可数名词时，有复数形式。

1. 不可数名词 N-UNCOUNT 投资（这种行为）Investment is the activity of investing money.

He said the government must introduce tax incentives to encourage investment... 他说政府必须推出税收激励政策来鼓励投资。

One of the most important changes concerns the investment of pension ontributions.

最重要的一个变化涉及养老保险基金的投资。

2 既可以用作可数名词，也可以用作不可数名词 N-VAR 投资金额;投资物An investment is an amount of money that you invest, or the thing that you invest it in.

...an investment of twenty-eight million pounds... 2,800万英镑的投资金额

You'll be able to earn an average rate of return of 8% on your investments. 你将能获得 8% 的平均投资收益率。

3 可数名词 N-COUNT 有用的投资物;值得买的东西If you describe something you buy as an investment, you mean that it will be useful, especially because it will help you to do a task more cheaply or efficiently.

When selecting boots, fine, quality leather will be a wise investment... 在挑选长筒靴的时候,购买上等的好皮靴将是明智的选择。

A **all-screen portable TV can be a good investment. 小屏幕的便携式电视机很值得买。

4 不可数名词 N-UNCOUNT (时间、精力的)投入Investment of time or effort is the spending of time or effort on something in order to make it a success.

I worry about this big investment of time and effort. 我担心投入这么多时间与精力却不起作用。

英语一道题

disability pension是固定搭配，意思是伤残退休金；伤残抚恤金

因而可判断选A，而且disabled是只指丧生能力的、有残疾的，只能用来修饰人，例如：He's been disabled since the war,when he lost his arm.

关于第二个空，我想说的是，disability作为残疾、伤残讲时是可数名词，而且因火灾造成的残疾可能不止一种，所以用的是复数形式吧。

两个英语问题：

第一题有两处语言点：

move 是发生在瞬间的趋向动词，这类动词的进行时态表示已经开始启动的将来， is moving to drawing his pens 表示的就是这种概念，即“向领取养老金靠近着”，也就是“就要（靠近）领取养老金了”

ever 与形容词的比较级连用表示语气的加强，含有“比以往任何时候”的意思，因此这句话的直译过来就是“他比以往任何时候都要接近领取养老金”，变通翻译即为“他确实就要领取养老金了”

第二题的 vocabulary 一般按不可数的抽象名词对待，但是当抽象名词带有修饰性的定语时就被具体化为区别于其他同类事物的另一种。此处的 vocabulary 前有 wider 修饰，意思是相对于 narrower vocabulary（不够宽泛的词汇）的另一种“更为宽泛的词汇”，因此需要不定冠词 a。另如：

a vocabulary of technical terms 专业词汇（后面有修饰性定语 of technical terms，表示相对于其他词汇的一种词汇）

a dancer's vocabulary of movement. 舞蹈者的动作语言（前面有修饰性定语 dancer's ，表示相对于其他人的一种语言）
