There is a frog. He lives in a well and he never goes out of the well. He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well.

One day a crow comes to the well. He sees the frog and says, "Frog, let's have a talk." Then the frog asks, "Where are you from?" "I fly from the sky," the crow says. The frog feels surprised and says, "The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well. How do you fly from the sky?"

The crow says, "The sky is very big. You always stay in the well, so you don't know the world is big."

The frog says, "I don't believe." But the crow says, "You can come out and have a look by yourself."

So the frog comes out from the well. He is very surprised. How big the world is!

奇迹的代价

Tess was a precocious eight-year-old girl when she heard her Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Andrew. All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money. They were moving to an apartment complex next month because Daddy didn't have the money for the doctor's bills and our house.

Only a very costly surgery could save him now and it was looking like there was no-one to loan them the money. She heard Daddy say to her tearful Mother with whispered desperation, “Only a miracle can save him now.”

Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes.

Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door.

She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster.

No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! “And what do you want?” the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. “I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages, ”he said without waiting for a reply to his question.“

“Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. “He's really, really sick…… and I want to buy a miracle.”

“I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist. “His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?”

“We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you,” the pharmacist said, softening a little. “Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.”

The pharmacist's brother was a well-dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, “What kind of a miracle does your brother need?” “I don't know,” Tess replied with her eyes welling up.

“I just know he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money.”

“How much do you have?” asked the man from Chicago.

“One dollar and eleven cents,” Tess answered barely audibly. “And it's all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to.”

“Well, what a coincidence,” **iled the man. “A dollar and eleven cents — the exact price of a miracle for little brothers. ”He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need.”

That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neurosurgery. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well. Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place.

“That surgery,” her Mom whispered, “was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?” Tess **iled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost…… one dollar and eleven cents …… plus the faith of a little child.

Sometimes the **allest things could mean the most to others. The density of people in society is so thick that we forget life will end one day and we don’t know when that one day will be. Compliment the people you love and care about, before it is too late.

He was in the first third grade class I taught at Saint Mary’s School in Morris, Minn. All 34 of my students were dear to me, but Mark Eklund was one in a million. Very neat in appearance, he had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional mischievousness delightful.

One morning my patience was growing thin when Mark talked once too often, and then I made a novice-teacher’s mistake. I looked at him and said, "If you say one more word, I am going to tape your mouth shut!"

As I glanced at Mark to see how he was doing, he winked at me. When I walked back to Mark’s desk and removed the tape, his first words were, "Thank you for correcting me, Sister."

Then I told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their clas**ates and write it down. It took the remainder of the class period to finish the assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed me the paper.

Then Mark said, "Thank you for teaching me, Sister."

Soon I was asked to teach junior-high math. The years flew by, and before I knew it Mark was in my classroom again. He was more handsome and more polite than ever. Maybe since he had to listen carefully to my instruction in the "new math", he did not talk as much in the ninth grade as he had in the third.

Several years later, after I returned from vacation, my parents met me at the airport. Mother gave Dad a side-ways glance and simply said, "Dad?" My father cleared his throat as he usually did before saying something important. "The Eklunds called last night," he began. "Really?" I said. "I haven’t heard from them in years. I wonder how Mark is." Dad responded quietly. "Mark was killed in Vietnam," he said. "The funeral is tomorrow, and his parents would like it if you could attend."

I knew without looking that the pieces of paper were the ones on which I had listed all the good things that Mark’s clas**ates had said about him. "Thank you so much for doing that." Mark’s mother said. "As you can see, Mark behaved better and better at school. It’s all because of you and your list."

Chen Shi, finding the thief, called his family together, saying, "To be a upright man one must have aspirations. Men are not born evil. But if one gets used to doing evil things, it will be hard to reform. The gentleman above the beam is such a man."
