absent 形容词，当前面用定冠词时意为缺席的人，或者不在场的东西。

而the absence of ⋯是＂在⋯不在场＂。

这个of表什么？ 还有absence without leave为什么是无端请假

leave作名词，有“准假; 假期; 辞别; 许可;”等意思，absense是不出席，without leave是没有准假，没有批准离开，所以absense without leave是无端请假。

leave of absense，这里的leave也是名词，of联系前后两个名词，可以理解为absense的leave,也就是没有出席的请假，也就是没有出面的请假，其实就是无端请假的意思。

它们都是“缺席”的意思，区别如下：

一、词性不同

absence是名词，例句：

二、用法不同
