1.solemnity：[uncount] the seriousness of someone's behavior or attitude“（言行或举止的）严肃；庄严”,即你知道的那种意思；

2.solemnities ：[plural] ceremonies held to celebrate a serious and important occasion“为庆祝一个严肃而重要的场合而举行的典礼、仪式（如婚姻、诞辰等）”.

这里应该指第二种意思.

还有,你那种翻译颇为死板,behold译作“监视”,我觉得不妥.当译作“注视”或意译作“守望；照临”都会比“监视”来得自然、更符合语境些.
